Digital Citizenship
Jade from The World of Naaya
Digital Citizenship is a concept which helps parents and teachers understand what children of the 21st Century should know to use technology appropriately. It prepares our children for a world where technology is ubiquitous, and interacting with it appropriately is part of being a responsible Digital Citizen. Too often we are seeing students as well as adults misusing and abusing technology but not sure what to do. More than a teaching tool, it helps focus on the appropriate use of technology in a growing global community.
Global Studies
Global Studies, in the broadest definition are the academic study of political, economic, social and cultural relationships of the world. Learning outcomes for the global studies vary, depending on the institute’s objectives. However, Naaya focuses on the following outcomes that students are expected to develop over the duration of study. These include:
Cultural awareness
Ability to think globally and locally
Skills in research and analysis
Awareness of current affairs
Character and Integrity
Privacy & Safety

Many children are skilled navigators of the Internet. They are comfortable using computers and are fascinated by the information and images that can be explored at the click of a mouse.
The Internet offers children and youth tremendous opportunities to explore new ideas, visit foreign lands, meet other children, and participate in challenging games. But like the real world, aspects of the virtual world can be harmful to children.
Web sites collect significant amounts of personal information from children. By asking children to register with the site, join a kids’ club, enter a contest, or fill out a questionnaire, these sites can compile names, addresses, favorite activities and commercial products. This information then is used to create customer lists, which may be sold to brokers who, in turn, sell them to other businesses.
Parents, teachers and other guardians cannot always be on hand to prevent children and youth from visiting web sites with harmful or objectionable content. Nor can they always be available to discuss with children what they are encountering in the online world.
The World of Naaya will be fully compliant with COPPA and provide parents, teachers, and administrators tools and alerts that constantly monitor and protect our children from messaging, interaction, or the collection of personal information.
This includes:
Obtaining parental consent before collecting, using, or disclosing personal information about a child.
Providing parents with the ability to review, correct, and delete information about their children collected by such services.
Maintaining reasonable procedures “to protect the confidentiality, security, and integrity of personal information collected from children.”
Describing any kind of information collected from children, for example, name, address, e-mail address, hobbies, and age. (Note: This requirement applies to all information, not just “personal information.”)
Providing parents with contact information – address, phone number, and e-mail address – for all operators collecting or maintaining children’s personal information.
Posting a clearly written privacy policy with links to the notice provided on the home page and at each area where the site or online service collects personal information from children.
Explaining how the information is collected – whether directly from the child and/or behind the scenes through ”cookies.”
Explaining how The World of Naaya uses any personal information and whether it is disclosed to third parties.
