World of Naaya - Teacher's Guide - Environment 1: The Woodlands
Entering the World
Logging into game
From www.worldofnaaya.com, Players can log into The World of Naaya using the username and password issued by their teacher.
Login screen of World of Naaya
Teachers can log into the teacher portal by selecting the Teachers tab on the right of the Naaya homepage. It is also recommended that teachers obtain a Player account so they can experience the game for themselves. This will help answer questions that students might have and also allow students to interact with their teachers in a way that they haven’t experienced before.
How to choose an Avatar
Choosing an avatar
Players can customize the appearance and attire of their avatars each time they log into The World of Naaya. Gender, hairstyles and color, eye color, skin tone, and garments can be modified as desired. The Player chooses options by clicking on them and then clicks on “OK” to enter the environment. As the Player selects different options, changes will appear on the avatar at the left of the screen.
Learning from Naaya
Naaya fairy
Players can depend on Naaya, a friendly fairy, for information and prompts throughout the game. She begins by welcoming Players.
Naaya fairy reappears in the town
She reappears whenever a Player reaches a new landmark.
How to read the Heads-Up Display
Heads-Up Display
Heads-Up Display: The Heads-Up Display is featured at the top of the screen when Players enter The World of Naaya. It provides updated information about a Player’s progress through the environment and registers points scored when the Player collects baubles (which randomly expose “factoids”) and discovers flora, fauna, and historical characters.
Level/Score
Level/Score: The Heads-Up Display shows how many points a Player has accumulated as well as the level he or she has achieved in the game.
Money Meter
Money Meter: Players can collect coins as they move through the environments. They also earn coins as a Woodcutter (creating and selling firewood) or Fisherperson (catching and selling fish). The Heads-Up display will indicate the number of coins they accumulate during game play.
Chat Window
Chat Window: The Chat Window gives Players a chance to interact synchronously with classmates or friends who are playing at the same time. The Chat Window provides preset expressions (words and phrases) and emoticons. Players can only chat with friends when they visit them in their homesteads, in town, or in Naaya’s Forest.
Weather
Weather (Environment Health): When a Player first enters The World of Naaya , the weather will be sunny. As the Player begins to “use” the environment (creating fishing rods or fishing in the river), it is possible that the weather will change to cloudy if they catch more fish or create more fishing rods than they are advised to do. This is included to teach kids the “cause and effect” relationship of their actions. The environment changes from “Sunny” to “Cloudy” when the Player logs in for the first time after a session in which he/she engaged in activity harmful to the environment. It remains cloudy for the next session.
NOTE: A session is defined as any number of logins during a 24-hour period.
Energy Level
Energy Level: Players will use energy as they progress through the Woodlands from task to task. In order to replenish their energy stores, they must eat food, which is obtained from the General Store and organized in their inventory. They can also gain energy by letting their avatar “sleep” in their home before exiting the game.
Using the Map
Map icon in the bottom panel
Map: The map provides an overview of the complete Woodlands environments. Players access this map by clicking on the scroll at the bottom of the screen.
Map of Woodlands
The map shows all of the locations that are currently locked or unlocked for the Player. The red pin marks the Player’s current location in the game. He/she may click on any unlocked location and jump directly to that place.
Using the Backpack
Backpack: Clicking on the backpack icon at the bottom left-hand side of the screen reveals a Player’s inventory: all of the items he or she has purchased from the General Store and/or Curiosity Shop. As a Player accumulates goods from the general store, such as food and furniture, these items will appear in his or her inventory. If they have made fishing rods or caught fish, those also show up in their backpack.
Throughout the game, the Player can open his or her backpack to access these goods. When a pet is hungry, the Player can select a bag of food to feed the pet. When a Player’s energy level is low, he or she can “eat” a piece of fruit or other food item from the backpack by clicking and dragging it to the avatar. Players can scroll through their inventory using the buttons on either side of the display.
Viewing the Buddy List
Buddy List
The buddy list shows all of the Players in a particular class or grade (depending on your school’s settings). It also displays each Player’s current level in the game. Players can scroll through their buddy list by using the buttons on either side of the display. If a Player’s avatar is illuminated in the Buddy List, he or she is currently in the environment.
Using the Scrapbook

The Scrapbook lets players view their progress as they play the game. It also keeps track of all the knowledge they have collected and contains their journal. To launch the Scrapbook, click the book icon at the top left corner of the screen.
Scrapbook Status
Each time the Scrapbook is activated, it opens to the Status page. There, the player can view his/her points, level, keys and all of the Badges that have been earned so far.
Scrapbook
The other pages of Scrapbook allow players to review all of the facts that have been collected (Time Tokens, Fact Files, Nature Frames and Portraits.)
The Scrapbook also contains the player’s Journal, which is used to send messages to other players.
NOTE: In order for kids to post and share pictures and videos in their Journal, parents have to first upload those in their kids’ media library. They can do this by logging in to the Parent portal using the Username/Password that you have provided each parent. Note that for parents to log in to the Parent portal, they must click on the Parents tab on the homepage at www.worldofnaaya.com.
