World of Naaya - Teacher's Guide - Environment 1: The Woodlands
Setting Up a Home
Getting Started
One of your students’ first tasks is to choose a homestead. Their choice will dictate a lot about how they play the game for the remainder of sessions. Players can choose between a Cabin (as a Woodsperson) or a Hut (as a Fisherperson).
To choose their homestead, they’ll need to find a coin to purchase a Welcome Sign at the General Store.
Step 1: Acquiring Coins
Coins are scattered
through out the Woodlands
Players can acquire coins as they navigate through the environment. Coins are scattered, glimmering, throughout the Woodlands; when a Player moves his or her mouse over the coin, a hand will appear. By clicking on the coin with the hand, the Player acquires the coin. The Heads-Up Display reflects their coin tally.
NOTE: Each coin is worth 10 points (like a “dime”).
Step 2: Purchasing a Sign from the General Store
General Store
Once a Player has found a coin, he or she can travel to the General Store in Town and purchase a sign. The friendly General Store owner will provide a sign as well as other supplies if the Player has enough coins. Later, once the Player begins to create fishing rods (as a Woodsperson) or catch fish (as a Fisherperson) he or she can return to the General Store to sell them for additional silver coins.

Step 3: Choosing a Homestead
Naaya guiding about the cabin
After purchasing a sign from the General Store, a Player can travel to either the Cabin (to become a Woodsperson) or the Hut (to become a Fisherperson). After a prompt confirming the Player’s homestead choice, the Welcome Sign will appear displaying the Player’s name. A Player cannot change his or her homestead once it has been selected.

Step 4: Acquiring a Pet
The homestead with a pet
If a Player decides to acquire a pet, he or she will need to collect coins, purchase pet food at the General Store, and then select from a dog, bird, or cat.
Pets prompting that they are hungry
The game will prompt the Player whenever the pet needs to be fed; it is the responsibility of the Player to purchase pet food and feed the pet as needed. If the Player does not fulfill this responsibility, his or her pet will run away. Pets remain close to a Player’s homestead within Environment 1.
Rescuing the pet
Once a Player reaches Level 2, he or she can rescue a pet at the Animal Rescue in Town.
